Saturday 15 April, we hosted the 2nd long-gun club championship for 2023, that is the Springbuck target. Some members were glad for the postponement because they would not have been able to attend in February but could participate this time.
The shoot needed 11 rounds, that is; big bore pig and big bore chicken silhouettes at 300 m, 3 shoots to hit two plates; 3 heart-lung shots at 200m sitting with mick-sticks; 3 heart-lung-shots sitting or kneeling at 100m, and 2 brain shots sitting with mick-sticks at 100m.
We had a total of 11 shooters; some were on the range for the first time this year, namely Debby and Conrad van Schalkwyk, Dawie du Plooy, Johann Valentin and Booyens Naude. Nice to see Booyens on the range (He is at the range every Saturday, but this is the first time he participated in a club champs shoot this year).
Dawie made a big first splash for the year tabling a score of 81/100 just behind Johann Valentin who put up a very nice score of 91/100. Johann van den Berg scored well ending in 3rd place on 68. Tom Diedericks and I tied for 4th place, I had a very disappointing start missing both the silhouettes at 300m, I think my first shot was a bit low and nicked the rail and indicated high up the dirt bund, I then could not get a correct setting thinking I was high but I was actually too low. I did eventually get to hit the silhouettes when after the official shots had been taken and once, I was back on my original settings I hit them but very low in the foot.
1st | Johann Valentin | 91 |
2nd | Dawie de Plooy | 81 |
3rd | Johann van den Berg | 68 |
4th | John Rutherfoord-Jones | 62 |
5th | Tom Diedericks | 62 |
The full set of scores were as follows:

See you guys there.
