Saturday 31st September was our last rim-fire (.22) open-sight and sport handgun club camps shoot for the year. The year’s winner is now set and only I know who that is.
The standard silhouettes were used, and the weather was not at all perfect, the wind was pushing quite a bit down range from left to right which made the turkeys particularly hard to score well on. Welcome back to Sharon who was away for 3 weeks on holyday.
It was nice to have Jimmy Appleby on the range with us; he now lives in Cape Town; he is up here getting his Vanderbijlpark house up to scratch to improve his chances of selling it. Jimmy did quite well in the air rifle event (with my rifle), finishing in first place. Jimmy Bekker suffered through the day being in some serious back pain, perhaps it was all the pain killers he was on that affected him, but his scores were not so marvelous, I won our friendly rivalry match and earned myself a beer. It looks like Allan had a serious gun bearer problem as all his sight settings were up in incorrectly and he suffered badly in terms of score.
But it was Sharon who came in at the last minute and stole the 1st prize out from under me. I was busy packing away and saw that although I had put Sharon’s name on the list, she had not yet shot, so I asked her if she wanted to shoot to which she replied “Yes”, if I would allow her to shoot with my rifle (she does not yet own an open-sight .22 rifle). So yes, I would lend her my rifle, so at least my rifle came in 1st, 2nd, and 4th (Dave also used my rifle). Well shot Sharon.
A total of 5 members participated, scores were:
We also shoot the .22 Sport Handgun event together with the .22 open-sight. We had a newcomer to the .22 pistol silhouette shooting club champs, namely Fanie Otto who has recently acquired a Browning Gold Triger with which to participate. He first complained that he did not understand the issue about sight setting for the respective distances, but Anso who has an identical pistol helped him and he did reasonably well, he understands a handgun obviously. It was Jimmy Beker’s first time using his Ruger Mark which did not have adjustable sights; here too his wows of the day continued. Allan Peters continues to post good scores in this event, followed closely by Sharan who also shoot her very new (1st owner) Ruger Mark 4.
The sport handgun scores were:
