.22 Rimfire Rifle (Scoped rifles)

The club .22 Rimfire club championship is decided on the aggregate of the best of two attempts for each of the 3 types of shoots:

  • Fat silhouettes
  • Field Shoot
  • Runner

Fat Silhouettes Structure

Fat Silhouettes

The fat silhouettes structure is as follow:

  • 5 Handgun Chickens at 40m standing unsupported.
  • 5 Handgun pigs at 60m standing unsupported.
  • 5 Standard turkeys at 77m sitting with shooting sticks.
  • 5 standard rams at 100m standing with shooting sticks.

Field Shoot Structure

(shot twice, best to aggregate)

The field target structure is as follow:

  • Springbuck5 shots at 30m sitting with shooting sticks.
  • 5 Handgun Chickens at 40m standing unsupported.
  • Warthog5 shots at 50m standing unsupported.
  • Duiker – 3 shots Heart/Lung area at 100m standing with shooting sticks.
  • Duiker – 2 Head shots at 100m sitting with shooting sticks.

The Scoring is as follows:

  • Paper targets – Kill shots 5 points (Head or Heart/Lung), 3 points spine or outer rings, other hits anywhere on body 1 point.
  • Silhouettes 5 points for knock down only.
  • Max score is 5 x 20 = 100.

Runner Structure

The Runner

The runner is a moving target from left to right and back again.  The three targets are:

  • Hyena – 4 shots running from left to right before it reaches cover.
  • Warthog – 4 shots running from right to left before it reaches cover.
  • The Hyena and Warthog will run twice, i.e. a total of 16 shots. 
  • The final four shots are at the jackal as it travels from left to right.
  • Total shot count is 20 at 5-point max per kill shot.
  • 3 points for outer scoring area and 1 point for any hit on the animal.
  • Max score = 100.

To score well one needs to judge the amount of lead one needs to have in order for the shot to land in the kill zone as well as the need to keep the rifle moving as the shot is fired; even if you lead, if you stop and pull the trigger you will miss.
