Man, oh man, I was ready to build ranges at 8 o clock, but it rained till 10 o clock. Who has heard of rain in the middle of winter? Anyway, got most of it done by the time the guys started arriving, then it was just putting up a few targets and off we went.
All in all, I think it went off well. We had 14 shooters. I think everyone enjoyed the relaxed type of shoot. They were all straight forward and unusual, not the type of shoot they are used to. Fixed time shoots, two were Comstock. The rest take your time accuracy counts. Don’t stuff up your mag changes.
We decided on one squad, which was fun at the end of the day, took a bit longer but the ribbing and advice being passed around was great.
The guillotine shoot was working, everyone said it was too fast, but when it actually came to shoot it, it was not so fast. 5 targets, two disappearing like gone disappearing… not a bit sticking out so that you can wound them… shot or not at all shot. Most shooters got shots on the disappearing targets. The old age “take your time quickly” applies here.
Then the El Pres, was the usual with a twist. You shot it once… If you feel you could improve on your score, you could shoot it again, but then the first one did not count. Some took the option, some did better some not. Was fun.
Then the bakkie shoot. The “Zamdela drive by” start on the back like usual. But you are chauffeured all around the inside of the assault course taking out targets and plates as you are driven past them by Donald. As you pass them, best two shots to count, all plates down. Don’t bugger up your mag change, Donald waits for no man.
Standards was from 35 meters working your way forward with different exercises at different distances. 4 shots per target. Strong hand, weak hand, and mag changes, finishing off with 4 headshots in 4 seconds.
Runner was shot from 10m and 25m. The targets pass left to right and back. 6 shots per string on the 10m and 3 shots per string on the 25m, was pretty late by then and also cold.
Off to the clubhouse for a lekker time, a few beers and the results.
As usual as it says, “OLD MAN’S SHOOT”. ALL WELCOME TO SHOOT INCLUDING LADIES, YOU WILL BE MENTIONED IN THE RESULTS, BUT IT DON’T COUNT, YOU MUST BE A VET 50 YRS OR OLDER.
So according to that, a spring chicken cannot claim the win, mooi getry PD but bad luck.
Winner of the day was Erik with Mattie second. Well done you old guys hope you enjoyed the shoot.
