Results – 3 Gun (12/3/2022)

PD Pretorius, Allan Peeters, & Tom Diedericks

The 3 Gun event normally starts at 12h00 but due to some members that had to attend the Vaal Triangle AGM meeting in the afternoon, the event started at 11h00. We had 11 participants for the day, and this was the best attended 3 Gun event since the dreaded C-word started! (Don’t like to even say the word but I am relieved that we are back to a new normal… 80% loading…)

The weather was great, it was hot and humid with all the recent rain. We started with the .22 rifle event as usual with some good scores.

Uncle Allan got the Top Gun for this event with a score of 99, Tom Diedericks took 2nd place with 85, and Dave Wilson 3rd with a 76.

Then we were summoned to the Handgun Standards range. Two targets per shooter, we had a whistle blower that told you when to start and when to stop, and oom Tom that gave out all the instructions. The handgun standards start from 7 meters, and we move up the distance after each sequence up to 25 meters. So now we had an old gun (Matty) vs a relative new gun (myself) facing off, I did not know we faced off, but some relative respectable scores were obtained according to the old guns of Wolwehoek (Very niceeeeeee shooting Matty).

Top Gun for the handgun event was shared by Matty and PD with a 107 out of a possible 125 (18 Alphas, 5 Charlies, and 2 Deltas for both shooters). Second place went to Clive spencer with a 94 (not bad for Mr Night Owl in daylight), and 3rd place for Dave Wilson with a 94.

Two of the three events done and dusted! These two events are also allocated as the 2 Gun event if one only participates in them, no Shotgun participation. Only one participant for the 2 Gun event: Markus Diedericks.

Okay so Uncle Allan and I thought that we would be nice and make the Shotgun event interesting and relatively easy. Man, we wanted all shooters to have fun. So, we dished up a small Compak/Sporting range. Some was not that happy at first with this change in the 3 Gun structure. We assured them that it’s an easy Compak range and that we all will have some lekker fun… okay okay it was NOT SO EASY…. SORRY… but it was lekker fun. Karel’s hen and chick turned into a kwiksterkie and hummingbird. They were a bit far. But it was the same for everyone and it was great to shoot something different.

Sean took the Top Gun for this event with a 19, Dave second with 16 (good shooting David) and I took 3rd with a 16 (countback if scores tied).

Results for the 3 Gun event can now be calculated, and the top 3 spots went to:

  1. PD. Pretorius (250)
  2. Dave Wilson (247)
  3. Sean Cochrane (229)
