Saturday 14 October, we hosted the 5th long-gun club championship shoot for 2023. This was the second springbuck shoot for the year.
We had 8 members participated on Saturday. Sharon Mladina was in attendance for her 1st long gun club championship, shooting her newly acquired Howa 6.5 Creedmoor. Sharon managed to shoot some more-or-less setting before the competition; I helped her the day before with bore-sighting and then she was on the sighter plant at 100m with her 2nd shot and in the middle with her 3rd. Jakes gave her adjustments from there to the 300m and things were on target after three shots, Sharon knocked the pig down with her 1st shot at the plates but was unsuccessful on the chicken (that thing is small at 300m), I too missed the chicken, as did Dawie and Markus. Sharons score was hot too bad for a 1st competition with long gun.
The highest score was of cause Jimmy Bekker who desperately needed this score for the year end aggregate because he did not shoot the 1st Springbuck shoot back in April of this year.
The top 5 scored were:
1st | Jimmy Bekker | 69 |
2nd | Jakes Pieterse | 62 |
3rd | Jacques Potgieter | |
4th | Dawie de Plooy | 58 |
5th | John Rutherfoord-Jones | 56 |
The full set of scores were as follows:
The next long-gun club champs are scheduled for November 2023 and will be the 2nd Wildebeest target, 11 rounds, that is; big bore pig and big bore chicken silhouettes at 300m, 3 shoots to hit two plates; 3 heart-lung shots at 180m standing with mick-sticks; 3 hear-lung-shots standing with mick-sticks at 100m, and 2 brain shots standing unsupported at 50m.
