Once again repairs had to be made to the runner control system before we could use the runner for our last Small Bore Rimfire club champs on Saturday 4 November. We had attempted the use the runner for the “Old-Man” handgun shoot on Saturday 21st October, but alas thing did not work as they should (I think because of bad/loos connections), and also when the remote control box was removed from the control switch gear, the guts of the tailer plug where pulled out and I had to buy and install a new trailer plug.  I also screwed down all of the connections in the motor control box. When I installed the repaired box back in place on Friday things worked perfectly and that was the case for Saturday’s shoot, The runner worked perfectly.

Just to run through the cause of fire again. We start with the runner on the right and run it from right to left, fire 4 shots at the hyena.  The runner then reverse direction and 4 shots are fired at the Jackal.  This is repeated for a total of 16 shots having been fired.  The last 4 shot to make the round count 20 are the fired at the Warthog running from right to left.

The targets are a lot bigger than the were last year, that is why we shot at 30m back from the runner rail.

As this was the last of the small bore rimfire events for 2023, the final results for the end of year prizegiving were somewhat up for grabs.  I had to improve on my previous runner score, and another had to not improve on their score, I won’t say who, but although I improved on my score adequately, so too did the other person and although the margin was reduced, I ended up seeding 1st place in rim fire overall and had to be content with being 2nd once again; the winner will be revealed at the prizegiving on 2nd December. Most of the shooters took advantage of shooting with Clive’s semi-auto Ruger; Clive, Anso, Markus and Jimmy Bekker, only Jimmy managed to break the shots in the right place, i.e. with the correct amount of lead, to score well; he scored 68; Clive scored 69 on the previous runner shoot in May. Sharon Dave and I used our bolt action rifles and still did very well

The top sores are therefore tabulated thus:

1stJimmy Bekker68
2ndDave Wilson66
3rdSharon Mladina65

We were only 7 shooters for this competition, we missed Allan, Tom, and all the rest of you; come on, join in on the fun.  See you next year.
