Long Rifle Big Bore Open Sight Club Champs – 7 May 2022
Due to several schedule conflicts the second big bore open sight event was postponed to Saturday 7 May. It seems this move threw the participants off their game as one participant pitched up with an empty gun case while another showed up with too few bullets. Eventually after a rifle sharing arrangement was made and additional bullets picked up from home shooting got underway.
It was a beautiful, almost windless day with no excuses for not shooting straight. The event again consisted of shooting at 5 animal print targets with two shots per target from 100 meters (shooting position vary per target) and one shot per target from 50 meters (headshot from standing position).
There were 6 competitors with Ian and Dawie eventually sharing the spoils with some excellent shooting. Reg again sponsored a handmade Louis Naude biltong knife which Ian took home as Dawie already earned one in the previous shoot. In the battle of the military rifles the SAW FN this time joined the fray and outshot the Portuguese Mauser and British SMLE 303.
