Saturday 1st April was our second rim-fire (.22) open-sight and sport handgun club champion’s shoot. We started directly after the air gun shoot.

The standard silhouettes were used, and the weather was almost perfect, typically just after the air gun ended and the wind dropped off. Welcome back to Sharon who was away for 6 weeks convalescing after major surgery.

It was nice to see Dawie and Berdi on the range again; so too Pikkie Wilson adding to our numbers. Pikkie brought along his recently licensed Bruno open sight rifle. This rifle was first bought new by Dave Wilson and then sold on to his older brother when he purchased his Anschutz 1712. The rifle came back to Dave/Pikkie when Dave’s brother passed away (he was a lot older than Dave). It would appear from the scores tabled that some further practice is required for Dave and Pikkie to sort out the sight picture with those flip up back sights.

The bet was one again on for a beer between me and Jimmy Bekker for the open sight rifle shoot. Jimmy shot first and posted an amazing score of 85/100; he missed only two turkeys and one ram. I thought I had him when I was only one off of full score after the turkeys; I was convinced I had him. Alas, not to be, I promptly went on to miss the first three ram putting me at 80/100.

Once again, my young grandson Joshua put up a reason able showing for his first time shooting the .22 open sight, ending on 55/100 putting him in sixth place (although still being only 13 years old he shoots over bipod mik-sticks).

A total of ten members participated scores were:

What a disaster Joshuo and I had with the .22 sport handgun, both of us only hitting two targets down. Here Pikkie and Dave took 1st and 2nd spots respectively followed by Clive Spencer; Anso and Sharon Mladina tied for 4th spot.  I need to sort out settings before I shoot this event again, poor Joshua who shot the handgun for the first time suffered because I had not done my home-work.

The sport handgun score was:
