I decided that on Saturday 3 September we would go full out on .22 rimfire shooting and shoot the whole gambit, i.e., runner, field target, fat silhouettes, open sight and sport handgun all on the one day (100 shot).
Unfortunately, the runner did not play ball and failed after just the first shooter (the gearbox seems to have failed), so we have still to date not managed to capture a runner score for this year.
Never mind we still had lots of shooting available:
We had 9 people on the range shooting (where were the rest of you??? Tom?? Markus?? Eljé?? Carolina???) and we could accommodate 8 shooters at a time, 2 Field targets, 2 on fat silhouettes, 2 on open-sight and 2 on sport handgun. For the full descriptions of what these entails see the web page – SMALL-BORE RIFLE RIMFIRE .22.
We all enjoyed the shoots, and learned some valuable lessons, like check your settings before you start shooting, Dave myself and Jimmy all fell prey to that one, and also don’t take the size of the fat silhouettes for granted, i.e., leaving the shot before the trigger has broken, too complacent, because then you miss huge animals, and you don’t understand how it is possible.
Some of the field targets are shot at using aiming sticks as you see Jimmy doing in the picture with Allan doing a marvelous job of spotting for Jimmy
The score was not all that spectacular; however Jimmy was on his way to full score on the fat silhouettes but then the complacency tap got him on the last two rams. Jacques also fell into this sneaky trap leaving one animal on each rail ending with 80/100
The scores for each event are as follows:
After the shooting, we all adjourned to the clubhouse for some well-deserved refreshment whilst I tallied up the cores and gave feedback as the how each of us had fared for the day’s activities.
The overall scores for the four events and the positions respectfully are:
