Saturday 23 September, we hosted the 4th long-gun club championship shoot for 2023. It was scheduled to be held on 19 August, but I was overseas visiting family in UK and had all the Impala targets with at my home.

Only 6 members participated on Saturday; we set up the range to accommodate 3 shooters per detail, this meant that we could complete the shoot in less that two hours, finishing fust after 12am.

Jimmy Bekker has injured his back so he could not make the shoot, but for him it did not matter because he could not improve is first score of 100%; the rest of us however were all hoping to improve on our previous score.  The only two to get this right was Jacques and Jake who managed to improve by 2 and 7 points respectively.  This was despite the nearly identical conditions on the day. Markus was sporting a brand-new fancy scope that does range finding and automatic elevation settings based on ballistics information fed in, the only problem is you still have to break the shot in the right spot on the target; a good group outside the scoring zone does not help much.

The top 5 scored were:

1stJakes Pieterse69
2ndJacques Potgieter62
3rdJohann v. d. Berg57
4thJohn Rutherfoord-Jones46
5thMarkus Diedericks30

The full set of scores were as follows:

The next long-gun club champs are scheduled for 14 October 2023 and will be the Springbuck target 11 rounds, that is; big bore pig and big bore chicken silhouettes at 300m, 3 shoots to hit two plates; 3 heart-lung shots at 200m sitting with mick-sticks; 3 hear-lung-shots sitting or kneeling at 100m, and 2 brain shots sitting with mick-sticks at 100m.
