Results – Old Man’s Shoot #1

Allan Peeters

All in all, I think it went off well. We had 18 shooters. I think everyone enjoyed the relaxed type of shoot. They were all straight forward and unusual, not the type of shoot they are used to.

Very few have shot off a moving bakkie before. Started with bum against the cab facing backwards. Donald was the driver. As you move off, you shoot 10 targets as they pass you left and right. No time involved. Last target is the end of the shoot.

Walk and draw. Like standards, but you walk from the 50m mark. At 40m stop and shoot then to 30m mark stop and shoot and so on till 7m mark. It involved head shots, mag changes shooting from the kneeling position. Not your usual standards.

Standards

Runner was shot from 10m and 15m and 20m. The targets pass left to right and back. 6 shots per string.

Colours shoot. Draw a coloured ball from a bag. That colour is then the hostage. You must shoot the opposite colours. Erick’s windmill hostages got in the way sometimes.

We started at 12, had a few hiccups with Practiscore, but Johan managed to sort it out.

The overall results for the Old Man’s Shoot is shown below (including the youngsters):

It was decided that you had to be a veteran or over 50 to win this shoot. The youngsters were happy with that… (They had no choice). But they are very welcome to shoot with us. They featured in the results but did not count. So the top threetoppies” were as follow:

  1. Erik Smid
  2. Johan Matthysen aka Matty
  3. Clive Spencer

We ended the shoot with a shortened version of man vs man. That went down well. Start back-to-back. Walk 5 paces, put tin on a pole with your gun hand, turn and shoot plates and clay targets, do a mag change and shoot the final popper. The bottom popper wins the match. It was shot in a round robin system, so everyone had a chance.

Final: Man vs Man

Everyone thought this was a great shoot and it must be done more often.

Johan Otto and Clive were in the final shoot off. Mooi so Clive. He came a very respectable second.
