Long Rifle Club Champs – Impala #1 February 2024

Saturday, February 17 we held the fist long rifle shoot of the year. We kept the format the same as previous years. This was the 1st long rifle shoot since the passing of our dear friend Booyens Naude, he was missed.

Eight shooters participated in all with Dave Wilson and I gave moral support; I did not shoot because I managed to amputate the first digit on my left index finger the night before the shoot and still could not grip with my left hand without sending “shooting pains” (pardon the pun) up my arm, I did not need to add to the likelihood of a serious flinch, so I abstained from the competition.

After the first two shooter were done, the wind came up something fierce, making 300m shots and brain shots out the shoulder with no support very difficult; thin only half of the shooters managing to hit both plates down, and only one shooter hitting with both brain shot.

The results were as follows: –

After the rifles had all had a go, Jakes went on and shot the competition using his TC Varmint pistol. He proceeded to amaze us all by hitting the two plates at 300m with his first two shots, he then also shot well at the heart long on the Impala tabling a score of 45. His brain shots did not hit their mark, missing the brain with one shot and missing the head with the other, for a total score of 66, making his handgun score lie 3 amongst the rifles.
